Entity Lounge, a new deep listening lounge from husband-and-wife team Michael and Jamie Manahan, is set to open in August at 4536 SE Hawthorne Blvd, the couple confirmed to What Now Portland. The concept is equal parts neighborhood bar and immersive music experience, with a program built around beer, wine, and sake during the day, and curated vinyl DJ sets by reservation in the evenings.
The idea is simple but unique. During daytime hours, Entity will function as a laid-back listening café, a place to sit, sip, and let the music do the work. And in the evening, the vibe shifts into something more intentional – ticketed, style-specific DJ sets that span everything from ambient and dub to psychedelic rock, goth, and dark wave. The Manahans are even thinking about a Sunday brunch series featuring the Grateful Dead on vinyl, which says everything you need to know about the kind of place they’re building.
The drink menu leans into exploration over excess, with beer, wine, and sake as the core, alongside low- and no-ABV cocktails for those who want something crafted without alcohol. On the food side, think shareable finger foods done right: small sandwiches, cheese plates, Mediterranean spreads, and pickle platters. Just the kind of snacking menu that keeps you at the table without pulling focus from the music.
“We’re just happy to be in the Hawthorne neighborhood, and we look forward to serving everyone with high quality and high fidelity,” Manahan told What Now Portland.
