A new spot for Taiwanese fare is coming soon to Newton.
Formosa Bun & Dumpling Factory is set to take over the former Jake’s Falafel Corner space at 740A Beacon St in Newton Centre, according to a post within the Friends of Boston’s Hidden Restaurants Facebook group.
Drawing inspiration from the Taiwanese night market scene, the menu will be “quite small,” co-owner Elvis Liao told What Now Boston. “We went with a small menu size from both a practical and efficiency perspective,” he said.
Diners can look forward to a curated selection of xiaochi (street food, or ‘small eats’), including fried bao cooked on a cast iron pan, steamed buns, and grilled Taiwanese sausage.
The Formosa Bun & Dumpling Factory team is hoping to welcome guests before the end of June 2025, pending permitting.
Jake’s Falafel Corner was known for its namesake falafel, Persian burritos, shawarma, and other Middle Eastern specialties. It’s unclear exactly when the eatery shuttered, though its Yelp page suggests it was still operating earlier this year.
