According to a recent permit filing, El Cantarito is set to open its doors in the Downtown area at 735 SW 1st Ave.
A representative of El Cantarito did not immediately return What Now Portland’s request for comment.
While overall information is limited and an opening date has yet to be confirmed, “El Cantarito” translated from Spanish to English means “the pitcher”. A cantarito is described as a small, earthenware clay jug, often serving tequila options. A cantarito can also be described as a tequila-based drink, commonly made with orange, lemon, and lime juice in a grapefruit soda.
El Cantarito will be taking over the space of what was previously Dragonwell Bistro. Dragonwell is described as a Chinese food spot in a comfortable but upscale environment. They served “Dragonwell Classics” such as kung pao or Mongolian beef, or “Taste of the Sea” menu options.
When doing a bit of research on the soon-to-be owner of El Cantarito, Ambrocio Mendoza Hernandez, it seems that he also owns Ambrocio Cleaning. The business was registered on October 31, 2018, and the registered business location is 7624 N Columbia Blvd, Portland, OR 97203, according to Open Corp Data.
