According to a recent filing with the state of California, the bustling Mexican eatery Lucho’s will be expanding to a new location in San Rafael as a new concept, Casa Lucho.
Lucho’s, the bold new restaurant that infuses Yucatán-style cooking with American-California cuisine, has been exploding in popularity ever since they opened up at 2675 Ocean Avenue and has even been recommended two years in a row by Restaurant Guru. The restaurant is known for serving rich, flavorful dishes like cochinita pibil and Pozolé, a traditional Mexican soup made with hominy and pork shoulder. Now, as their popularity continues to grow, the team behind Lucho’s is ready to bring their signature flavors to a whole new neighborhood.
Headed by owner Kelly Barbieri and chef Lucho, the new concept will be their biggest expansion yet. Dubbed “Casa Lucho,” the new restaurant will feature breakfast, lunch, and brunch alongside a traditional selection of beer and wine.
What separates Casa Lucho from the competition however, is that Kelly and Lucho plan on designing the menu around the seven traditional culinary regions of Mexico. While Lucho’s restaurant began as a fusion of California cuisine and Yucatán specialties, Casa Lucho will be featuring specials from the other six regions of Mexico.
Lucho, who was born and raised in the Yucatán region of Mexico, has been cooking in the United States for over 15 years and is thrilled to be able to share the flavors he fell in love with at home with the rest of San Francisco. This new restaurant represents not only an expansion of Lucho’s itself, but an expansion of the culinary palate of the Bay Area as a whole.
Casa Lucho will be opening up 2214 4th Street in San Rafael, quite a ways away from the current Lucho’s location at 2675 Ocean Ave in San Francisco’s Lakeside District. Owner Kelly Barbieri was able to confirm with What Now San Francisco that the team is hoping to open up Casa Lucho to customers by September 28th. The new location will bring Lucho’s signature take on authentic Mexican cuisine to a brand new neighborhood, exposing San Rafael residents to a whole bevy of new flavors they might have otherwise missed out on.
