When Crisnel and Charlotte Ombao‘s daughter was diagnosed with Type I diabetes and celiac disease, the family struggled to find places that catered to her dietary needs. The Ombaos will fill a niche that is missing when they open 4C Creamery later this year.
“We want to serve the community the way we serve our daughter,” said Crisnel Ombao.
The 1,097 square-foot ice cream shop at 2455 S Hiawassee Road in Orlando is not only named after the first initial of each family member’s name, but it also stands for celiac, carb counting, care and celebrate.
Serving up premium hand-dipped Hershey’s ice cream in flavors like strawberry, cookie dough, and cappuccino crunch, 4C Creamery will have two prep areas, one for gluten-free product and one for regular ice cream options. No-sugar added ice cream will also be available.
The ice cream will be scooped, weighed and assigned a carb count when requested, making life easier for diabetics. With 24 rotating flavors, there will be something for everyone, including seasonal options.
“We not only want to serve and sell ice cream, but to raise awareness about this condition and let people know you don’t get diabetes by eating ice cream or sharing food with other people with diabetes,” said Ombao.
4C Creamery will be decorated with facts and information about diabetes and celiac disease to educate the public.
Located in the former Subway sandwich shop next to Marco’s Pizza in Metro West Village, the Ombaos are waiting on permits to begin construction and expect to open in late October or November 2021.
