When Baton Rouge restaurateur Jordan Piazza was looking to reopen the former Kalurah Street Grill restaurant under the Perkins Road overpass, he looked into the building’s past for inspiration and the new concept will be named after another restaurant that used to inhabit the space: the Colonel’s Club. The project is currently working on alcohol licensing.

It is difficult to track down details on the old Colonel’s Club, but according to Currents magazine, it was the center of the area’s music scene and bohemian culture in the 1960s. According to reports, the new Colonel’s Club will be more of an elevated restaurant concept. It will also be another dining destination in the vibrant Perkins Road overpass district. Located between the Garden District and LSU, the Perkins Overpass is a foodie’s hotspot, and in September, it was announced that the neighborhood would be getting a $2 facelift. The revitalization project is expected to include better lighting, pedestrian safety, and parking options.

The lack of parking in the area was cited as a reason for closing the Kalurah Street Grill, which happened back in February. Owners of that restaurant also cited concerns about the impact of the Interstate 10 expansion.
