Flying Dolly’s is a recently rebranded frosty treats shop based in Mandeville that built a cult following with its snowballs, house-made ice cream, and cookies. The company is now poised to expand into New Orleans, but before the first Flying Dolly’s opens in the Crescent City, the company will be taking ownership of the iconic Pandora’s Snowballs in Mid-City. Co-owner Jeff Robertson recently told What Now New Orleans that Pandora’s will largely remain the same.
“We’re really excited about taking over Pandora’s,” he said. “It’s an institution and we’re not going to change things up much because they’ve done things so well for 50-plus years.”
At first, Flying Dolly’s was a typical frozen treat shop offering snowballs and ice cream. The company stated making its own ice cream more than a decade ago, and it recently started offering cookies as part of its effort to stay open year-round; unlike the typical snowball shop which tends to be seasonal. Those Flying Dolly’s treats will soon be available at Pandora’s.
“We have been focused on giving people something that they’ll crave year-round,” Robertson said.
The company had been known as Just Chillin’ for 11 years until a battle with the United States Patent and Trademark Office forced a rebrand. Flying Dolly’s is named after the Robertson family’s beloved dog, and the company logo somewhat resembles a dog’s face – as well as a cloud and an ice cream cone. Robertson said to keep an eye out for news of Flying Dolly’s locations coming to New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
“We’ve got some things on the horizon,” he teased.
