Watch out Islanders fans, there’s a new team in town and they’re ready to take over Chelsea. Yes, it appears that Canadian hockey fans are making their way down south to establish a new home for Vancouver fans across New York.

The Canuck is a brand new sports bar and restaurant that is expected to open up at 202 9th Avenue. Owned by hockey fan and businessman Denis Ladouceur, The Canuck is expected to be the go-to watering hole for Canuck fans across the city.

While sports bars are a common sight in New York, not many of them cater to hockey-heads – and the ones that do are often full of crowds cheering for the Rangers or Islanders. It’s not easy being a fan of a rival team in a foreign city, and thankfully Canadian expats and workers will finally have a place to get together and enjoy some drinks while watching their favorite team.

The Canuck is currently expected to replace Jake’s Saloon (no relation to your handsome and humble author) at 202 9th Avenue, right in the heart of Chelsea between 22nd and 23rd Street. Jake’s saloon was a popular low-key bar that offered simple drinks and bites in a casual, environment themed after a Western saloon. Thankfully, the original Jake’s saloon is still operating successfully at 202 West 23rd Street, so fans shouldn’t be too disheartened by the news.

No word has been given yet as to when Denis hopes to have The Canuck operational, but it’s safe to say that he is still early into the process. There’s still a lot of work that needs to be done to transform the 2,215 square feet of space into the true Canuck bar that Denis has been envisioning.
