Mad Dog in the Fog is reopening at 1568 Haight St. according to pending Type 47 and 58 licenses filed within San Francisco. Pub dwellers who were saddened upon Mad Dog’s closure in 2020 will now get to look forward to Mad Dog’s return around the end of this year.
Located near the corner of Haight and Ashbury, the 3,900 square-foot space was previously known as Michael Collins Irish Bar. Outfitted with two full bars, the space also boasts a full kitchen and basement space, so there will be no time wasted on a full buildout.
A new development for Mad Dog is its focus on serving food. The menu will feature classic American neighborhood fare with a heavy English-Irish influence. Of course, customers can still expect to enjoy a pint or three while watching soccer or dominating Quiz Night.
Mad Dog in the Fog was a Lower Haight institution for three decades until the pandemic hit last year. Owner Cyril Hackett announced at the time, “Having served San Francisco and The Lower Haight for more than 30 years The Mad Dog In The Fog is taking a nap. We will return louder and more wicked at a new location.” Looks like that time has finally come. Hackett, who could not be reached for comment, also owns nearby establishments Nickie’s and The Kezar Pub.
