As work continues to repair the fire-damaged Willie Mae’s Scotch House in the Treme, the owners are planning to open a Willie’s Mae’s location downtown at 898 Baronne St., according to a permit filed last week with the City of New Orleans. What Now New Orleans subsequently reached out last week for comment but did not get a response. According to a story published this week by the Times-Picayune, the permit filing is for a second New Orleans location, which be called Willie Mae’s Nola. The menu at the downtown location will be similar to that of the original, and an opening date is reportedly set for this fall.

In 2022, Willie Mae’s opened its second-ever location in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Venice, and it is currently the only iteration of the restaurant that is open. Willie Mae’s world-famous fried chicken is available for shipping nationwide through Goldbelly. The restaurant did have a food stand in the Pythian Market food hall, which closed in 2022. The original location was closed by a fire in April 2023.
