Poppy + Rose is expanding to a second location in San Pedro as part of the $150 million redevelopment replacing the old Ports O’ Call Village, located at 1190 Nagoya Way.
The popular restaurant is adding a new location after receiving multiple accolades since opening in 2014. The floral-themed restaurant has earned the titles “best breakfast in LA,” “best chicken & waffles in LA,” and “best chicken sandwich in LA.” The new restaurant hopes to open its doors to the San Pedro location sometime in the third or fourth quarter of 2023.
“All of the dishes from the restaurant’s extensive menu are made from scratch, with original recipes crafted in Reed’s kitchen,” according to their website. “Favorites off of the Poppy + Rose menu include Buttermilk Chicken + Waffles, the Fried Chicken Sandwich, Biscuits and Gravy, and a Pulled Pork Hash Platter. Along with brunch staples are the restaurant’s equally loved, clever cocktails, which are as simple as mimosas to as quirky as the Fried Chicken Mary – Chef Michael’s take on a Bloody Mary with house Bloody Mary mix, topped with wine-based vodka and a giant fried-chicken piece.”
Poppy + Rose was founded by husband-wife duo Chef Michael Reed and Kwini Reed. Not only does the restaurant serve elevated country kitchen-styled comfort food, but they also give back to the community in many ways. The two have used their success to help supporting hospitals, children’s organizations, social justice causes, and more through financial assistance and meal donations. The restaurant plans to expand its initiatives soon to include a supper menu and collaborations with other Black-owned businesses.
