Sidecar Doughnuts, the self-proclaimed “world’s freshest doughnuts,” continues to expand throughout Southern California, this time opening a seventh location in Culver City, located at 10705 Washington Blvd.

The California bakery chain first launched in Costa Mesa in 2013 under co-owners Sumter and Chi-Lin Pendergast. The micro-chain has a total of five stores open, with their Fairfax location being the most recent. Sidecar Doughnuts also has plans to open a location in Manhattan Beach, but there is no official opening date. The Culver City location is expected to open in early 2022, according to the storefront. The restaurant will sit within a 3,220 square-foot space, replacing The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

The husband-wife duo first started selling their doughnuts out of a renovated 1959 Helm’s Bakery Truck. Since then, the restaurant has earned several high-praise accolades, including coverage on the Food Network’s Best Thing I Ever Ate and Unique Sweets on the Cooking Channel. The shop fries all of their doughnuts in small batches throughout the day, guaranteeing a “fresh-out-the-fryer treat.”

“We make our doughnuts daily, from scratch, using only the finest ingredients possible, and prepare as much as we can in-house,” according to their website. “Our team works day in and day out, mixing and rolling out hand-crafted dough, standing over simmering pots of fruit purees and sizzling pans of bacon, and whipping up fresh creams and custards.”
