Kensho, originally located on the grounds of Yamashiro in Hollywood, is expanding to a second location, also in Hollywood, located at 6634 Sunset Blvd.

The new location will move into a 3,160 square-foot space with 46 interior seats, according to a case filing for the restaurant submitted to the City of Los Angeles. The restaurant will also have an additional 1,142 square-foot ground floor covered outdoor eating area with 32 seats and a 515 square-foot second floor covered dining terrace with 20 seats. The new Kensho will be open every day from 6 am to 2 am.

Kensho originally opened in 2019 under owners Joseph Geiskopf and David Wynn, the duo behind hit Echo Park restaurant and coffee shop Triniti. The original location at 1999 N Sycamore Ave serves simple but high-quality Japanese dishes in a chic and minimalistic environment. The new restaurant is set to occupy a historic two-story office structure incorporated into the mixed-use development to serve the residents of the building and Hollywood’s visitors and residents alike.

According to application materials submitted by the applicant, there are 48 shared parking spaces on-site. No live entertainment or dancing will be allowed, and there will be no minimum age for entry. There will be approximately 8-12 employees on-site at any given time. “Fortified” wine (greater than 16% alcohol) and alcohol will be sold, with or without a food order. A cocktail lounge would be maintained on-site, and no “Happy Hour” sales of alcoholic beverages would be offered at any time.

It is unknown whether or not the new Kensho will follow in the footsteps of its original. The new space will be much larger than the original, which only seats 25 patrons at a time. The original Kensho serves rare coffees and housemade pastries, plus options like ground-to-order matcha service. There is also no set opening date for this restaurant at this time.
