Amazon intends to open a new retail store in Woodland Hills, according to new planning filings with the city of Los Angeles.

Though a specific brand of store is unannounced, planning documents show that the Seattle-based company wants to open a roughly 5,000-square-foot small-format market at the northwestern corner of the intersection of Ventura and Topanga Canyon Boulevards. The location of 22001 Ventura Boulevard currently holds an approximately 5,500-square-foot commercial building formerly occupied by a Chase Bank branch.

Amazon is seeking a conditional use permit to allow for the sales of a full line of alcohol for off-site consumption for a market open daily from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. The new store would require tenant-improvement work to convert the space into a market, but there would be no exterior structural changes to the site’s existing building, according to planning filings.

Amazon declined to comment on plans filed for the store.

“The tenant improvements will not result in adverse effects to any adjacent properties or the surrounding neighborhood, but rather will serve to enhance the site and operate a desirable, new business,” Amazon’s retail team for the project writes in application documents. “The Department of Building & Safety has approved a change of use to retail-market store.”

Amazon has launched several brick-and-mortar retail concepts within the last 10 years, including grocery store Amazon Fresh and a pair of smaller-store brands: convenience store Amazon Go and Amazon Go Grocery. While its Fresh locations are typically 30,000 square feet or larger, including one in Woodland Hills, Amazon Go and Amazon Go Grocery (a larger version of the Amazon Go brand) have ranged from about 2,000 to 10,000 square feet in size.

New filings for the planned Woodland Hills store say it will offer “a wide variety of products, including deli goods, dairy and cheese products, and a small selection of household goods and personal care items.”
