A brand new restaurant called La Cocecha is coming to Baldwin Park, located at 4291 Maine Ave.

The new restaurant will replace Himalayan Cafe in March 2022, owner Alfonso Romero tells What Now Los Angeles. He says La Cocecha will be an upscale Mexican restaurant with “the flavors of a hole in the wall restaurant without looking like a hole in the wall.” The stand-alone restaurant will have traditional Mexican dishes as well as alcohol, pending a liquor license. Romero says the restaurant will have authentic flavors throughout the menu with a fine-dining ambiance.

This won’t be the first restaurant for Romero. The business owner is also the franchisee of the nearby ice cream shop La Michoacana Premium, only a few feet away at 4281 Maine Ave. Both La Cocecha and LMP Baldwin Park will sit within the Maine Avenue Marketplace. The restaurant will also join Main Burgers and Acai Joint as the corner-eats of Clark and Maine.

Although there aren’t many Mexican restaurants in the immediate area, La Cocecha will have to compete with the several Mexican restaurants on Ramona Blvd., including a King Taco, Casa Guerro, Casa Ramona, and Mi Lindo Oaxaca Restaurant.
