Your neighborhood banchan spot Perilla LA is opening its first storefront in Los Angeles after months of pop-up events.

The restaurant started in 2020 out of Koreatown under owner Jihee Kim and quickly became a popular banchan destination. Perilla LA soon began popping up at locations throughout Los Angeles, including ComplexCon’s First We Feast Food Lagoon. Now, Kim is getting ready to open her first brick-and-mortar in early 2022. The restaurant’s website states the new restaurant address is 1027 Alpine St. and will be open from 7 am to 2 pm daily.

Perilla LA’s online menu is divided into two sections: banchan and more. The former features most banchan favorites such as marinated okra, tomato kimchi, Meiji tofu with gochujang meat sauce, and mushroom with Yuba. As for the more, Perilla LA offers Gimbap, seasoned rice with savory egg curry, steamed rice, and a tote bag.

“Perilla LA is a reimagination of traditional Korean banchan in a contemporary, urban American setting,” according to their website. “Inspired by the seasonal offerings of California’s farmer’s markets, each banchan takes chef Jihee Kim’s inventiveness and multi-cultural heritage and translates it into a small, savory, fresh dish worth remembering.”
