Little Sky Bakery has gone brick-and-mortar recently, with plans to open an additional cafe, San Francisco Chronicle first reported. The Menlo Park bakery pop-up is a fixture at Peninsula-area farmers markets, where lines gather every weekend for owner Tian Mayimin’s baked goods.

At the end of March, Little Sky Bakery soft opened a 1,200 square-foot bakery space at 506 Santa Cruz Ave. in Menlo Park, next to Philz Coffee. They’ve since been able to double production, not only for farmers markets, pop-up events and deliveries, but also for an upcoming cafe called Little Sky Kitchen that Mayimin plans to debut in a few months time.

The cafe will be located just across the street at 1010 El Camino Real, in the former home of Borrone MarketBar. The cafe will allow customers to enjoy prepared goods and coffee on-site at some outdoor tables. In addition to the breads, scones and other baked goods Little Sky is known for, Mayimin has plans to expand her menu with pizzas, sandwiches, and dishes from her native Xi’an in Northwest China.

A former lawyer with a passion for baking naturally leavened bread, Mayimin started home baking and delivering loaves around town. The infinite possibilities that arise from naturally leavened doughs is what inspired Mayimin to start Little Star Bakery in 2017.  “It’s so fascinating how all these different cultures have been using wild yeast. There are so many cool human traditions that are so fun to keep building on,” she tells San Francisco Chronicle.
