“A swanky pizza lounge” called three.one four is slated to take over the former Lalime’s at 1329 Gilman St. in Berkeley late this summer, Berkeleyside first reported. The concept is brought to us by co-owners Brandon Wilson and Josh Sizemore, veterans in the hospitality and beverage scenes, respectively.
The pizza menu is in development with the help of Roman chef Mario Vollera, whose sourdough pies at Venice’s Southend are some of the best in Los Angeles. Wilson tells Berkeleyside that three.onefour’s pies will be baked in a double-decker gas oven that will help achieve a crispy, yet chewy crust that’s unlike anything else he’s tasted in the Bay Area.
He does note that they would have been unable to move forward with this project without a blessing from the space’s original occupants, gaining approval from Cindy Lalime Krikorian herself to add a Mediterranean-style pie called “Lalime’s.”
Finally, Wison adds that there will be bottled beers, wines, and “whiskey from a list that we only present when people ask for it.” He and Sizemore envision a lowkey but “sexy” space that will be perfect for date night.
