Opa! I hope you’re hungry New York, because a brand new Greek restaurant is getting ready to open its doors on Duane Street later this year.
Argo is a new Greek restaurant from owner Nikolaos Ntatidis, who has been working for a while as a Project Manager for K-Square Developers. The new restaurant is scheduled to open up at 181 Duane Street, in between Duane Park and Washington Market Park. It does not appear that Nikolaos has operated a restaurant of his own before Argo.
Due in part to the Covid-19 pandemic, the space at 181 Duane has been host to a multitude of different restaurants in the past few years. Argo will be replacing Serenata, an Italian restaurant that briefly occupied the space, and before that it was known as Gato Nero. The space is likely best recognized as the home of Max, an acclaimed Italian restaurant that operated on Duane Street since 2000. Max has thankfully survived since leaving Duane street, and currently operates at 134 West Broadway, in Tribeca.
Argo features about 1,600 square feet of space between the ground floor and basement, and is expected to be able to accommodate about 35 guests at one time. While Nikolaos initially desired to add seats with a roadside café, a shift in New York regulations regarding parklets has rendered that plan temporarily untenable. Nikolaos is currently proposing operating hours of 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM every day, seven days a week. Argo is not expected to play any live music nor host any live events. Unfortunately, Argo is too early into development to have its own social media profile, but should anything change in the near future we will update the story accordingly.
