Former customers of Playa Azul Seafood & Oyster Bar in Houston are anxiously awaiting the planned reopening of the restaurant in a new location.

Playa Azul first opened in 2008 and closed the restaurant’s location at 10966 Grant Rd. last September. Owner Fernando Lopez said the former location was in need of renovations. “We closed down over there and then we found this location, but we are working on it.”

Playa Azul Seafood & Oyster Bar is currently undergoing renovations and waiting to obtain a liquor license for the new location at 9630 Jones Rd., Houston, TX 77065.

“We are very excited, not only us, our customers. They are calling us, and they are very happy about it,” Lopez said. “They are waiting on us to open.”

The menu includes a variety of unique dishes. “We came from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, so this is the real Mexican seafood.” Offerings include ceviche, fresh oysters on the half shell, and fresh shrimp. Fajitas, burritos, and tacos will also be on the menu, as well as cocktails, beer, and wine.

They hope to reopen at the new location sometime in early August. “We are ready for them. We missed everybody,” said manager Maria Grandados.
