The proprietor of one of Manhattan’s oldest Irish Pubs is getting ready to debut a brand new restaurant concept.
Niamh Conway is a well-established restaurant and bar operator that has been serving New York since the 90’s. She is best known as the President of Galway Hooker Pub as well as Fiddlesticks, a beloved West Village Irish pub that has been bringing the community together since it launched in 1999. Galway Hooker Bar meanwhile is one of the most popular Billiards bars in the neighborhood, and has been operating successfully since 2006.
Now, it appears that Niamh and her team are getting ready to debut a brand new concept at 58A Greenwich Ave. Located right next to Fiddlesticks, the space was previously occupied by The Original Sandwich Shoppe of NY, a family owned deli that has been in operation since 1983. Since shutting down that space though, the owners of The Original Sandwich Shoppe have actually moved next door to 64 Greenwich Avenue, where they continue to serve their famous turkey sandwiches under the rebranded moniker of The Village Sandbar.
The space at 58A, which is attached to Fiddlesticks, offers about 1,000 square feet of space and is expected to seat about 29 guests at one time. Niamh describes her new concept as a “restaurant focusing on comfort foods,” and is currently attempting to acquire a full restaurant liquor license for the space. According to a sample floor plan attached with her application, the relatively humble space will feature one bar against the wall with five additional tables in the middle.
At the moment, Niamh is getting ready to meet with the community board to receive the green light on her liquor license. She is currently proposing operating hours of 5:00 PM – 2:00 AM, every day, seven days a week, and is not proposing any additional outdoor spaces at this time. While Niamh is still too early into development to share further details, you can follow Fiddlesticks on Instagram for future updates.
