A new French and Vietnamese bistro is currently getting ready to open up on Bleecker Street later this year.
Brasserie Vietnam is a new restaurant concept from owners Ray Huang, Feng Liu, and Zhou Yang Min. Together, the three previously operated South of the Clouds, a popular casual eatery that highlights Yunnan cuisine and regional small bites. Located at 16 West 8th Street, South of the Clouds is known as one of the neighborhood’s most interesting noodle spots, and reservations can be made through their Instagram account.
Now, Ray and his team are getting ready to launch a brand new concept in the neighborhood. Their new concept, Brasserie Vietnam, is descried by Ray as a French-influenced Vietnamese brasserie in which “most food is comfort food.” Describing his vision in greater detail, Ray noted that he hopes to elevate “Vietnamese local specialty food to a whole new level.” The brasserie is expected to open up later this year on 232 Bleecker Street, between Morton and Barrow, and will replace Kumo Sushi, which previously operated at the location. The location features approximately 2,000 square feet between the ground floor and basement, and is expected to be able to seat about 52 guests at one time. Additionally, plans are in place to develop a roadbed that will add an extra eight seats.
The menu, which is relatively pared down and refined, will offer vegetable dumplings and summer rolls as cold appetizers as well as hot appetizers like spring rolls, fried tara chips, beef buns, and crab dumplings. For the entrees, guests will be able to enjoy rice bowls with lemon grass chicken, shrimp, and pork, as well as specialty house pho made with lobster, short ribs, or seafood.
Right now, Ray and the team are getting ready to apply for Brasserie Vietnam’s new liquor license. They are currently applying for a beer and wine license, and are proposing operating hours of 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM every day, seven days a week. Unfortunately, Brasserie Vietnam is too early into development to have its own social media presence, so you will just need to remain vigilant for further signs of life in the space.
