New restaurant concept QP Tapas will debut in Coral Gables on Friday, September 23 serving Izakaya-style Spanish tapas. Each Friday and Saturday night at 5:30 p.m., MKT Kitchen will transform from cafe and market to restaurant serving Chef Josh Elliott’s dinner menu.

The menu will feature hot and cold small plates such as fresh crudos and yakitori, as well as large format dishes including Paella inspired by Valencia and Okonomiyaki, a savory Osaka-style pancake. A boutique selection of sake, wine, and beer plus a well-rounded non-alcoholic cocktail list complements the cuisine.

The QP team is led by Chef Josh Elliott, locally remembered for his time with Jose Mendin, and their French Brasserie L’echon in Miami Beach. Chef Elliott spent three years in Boston as Executive Chef of the city’s original Spanish tapas restaurant Toro with Ken Oringer. Most recently, Elliott was the Executive Chef of THesis Hotel, having written the opening menu of Orno with chef Niven Patel.

Says Chef Elliott about the debut in a statement, “After working through the pandemic in Boston, my perspective shifted. I’ve become more of a family guy and Coral Gables is where we want to set down roots. QP will be a reliable neighborhood spot with great bites, big flavors and good energy. I’m going to cook the food I love to eat with the very best sources of ingredients that I’ve been incredibly lucky to build relationships with.”

Opening Friday, Sept. 23 at 5:30 p.m. to the public, with a preview Tapas Night on Thursday, Sept. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.

QP is from Latin quota pars, meaning how great a part. Audibly, the name QP evokes Kewpie, a favorite Japanese mayonnaise, it is similar to Aioli, and essential to both cultures.
