Known as a “warm, wood-clad eatery serving Japanese fare, from creative sushi rolls and sashimi to cooked dishes,” Hakashi Japanese Sushi Bar & Grill is introducing a second location to the Bay Area. In addition to its flagship spot at 474 3rd Street in San Francisco, a new outpost is slated to open before summer at 1385c North Main Street in Walnut Creek.
Emma Carpio, who owns the business with her wife Wendy Yeomans, tells What Now San Francisco that they launched Hakashi on Bryan and 3rd four years ago, wanting “to open a restaurant for everybody, to give everybody a little taste of Japanese food.”
The current menu, developed by Chef Julio Zapata, is primarily omakase-style. However, there are also specialty rolls and hot dishes for diners who aren’t ready to participate in the trust exercise. The eatery also serves a large selection of sake and beer.
Carpio shares that the food menu will stay the same at the upcoming location. Unlike the original, though, the new space will offer a full bar, so patrons can look forward to a new cocktail menu that revolves around sakes and Japanese ingredients.
