Los Angeles-based The Red Chickz is set to bring its Nashville-style hot chicken to Charlotte with a new 10-unit development deal for the North Carolina market.

Kamran Awan will be opening the new locations. He is planning for four locations in Charlotte, four in Raleigh and two in Greensboro, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.

Currently, no locations have been selected. However, Awan told the Charlotte Business Journal that he is looking for spaces that are 1,800-2,000 square feet in busy shopping areas. He is aiming to open the first location in south Charlotte.

While an opening timeline will not be set until the first location is leased, once a location is found, the process will likely take eight to 12 months.

“We’re actively looking at all locations,” Awan told the Charlotte Business Journal. “We have the open territory of Charlotte. Wherever we find the best real estate, we can make it happen.”

Awan is not new to the restaurant franchise market in Charlotte. He also brought The Cookie Plug to the Platform in South End this year, and he is bringing the first The Halal Guys to North Carolina, which is expected to open this fall. His Greensboro-based Mega Group also manages 10 hotels and two real estate offices.

The Red Chickz currently has five locations: four in California and one in Texas. The fast-casual spot serves fried chicken dishes such as chicken and waffles, a chicken taco, chicken sandwiches and chicken tenders. It also offers fried jumbo shrimp, cauliflower bites and a French toast sandwich.
