Gladstone’s, the Pacific Palisades-based oceanfront restaurant announced for Seaport Village years ago, is finally moving forward with its location at 861 W Harbor Dr.

Previously, What Now San Diego reported the restaurant’s San Diego debut after news broke back in September 2021, when Gladstones and Shorebird were both expected to open in late 2022. Nearly three years after San Diego port commissioners cleared the way for these two restaurants, both are gearing up to begin construction on their respective sites, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Gladstone’s will move into the still-operating Edgewater Grill and is expected to start construction by June 1.

“We’d like to start work tomorrow,” restaurateur John Sangmeister tells the Union-Tribune. “But we should start within 60 days. I don’t see any other delays. It took forever to approve our plans. I can’t explain why it took so long, other than our story is not unique. Malibu farms (in Seaport Village) had the same experience.”

While an exact opening date is unknown, both city building permits have been approved. Gladstones and Shorebird both signed a 10-year lease back in 2021 and have had their leases extended by five additional years because of the permitting delays. Once construction is completed and the restaurant opens, customers can expect a variety of delicious, fresh seafood and cold cocktails, matched with an incredible view of Coronado Island.
