The Mezcalito Group is teaming up with chef Oscar Diaz for a new restaurant and bar concept this year.
They are behind Aaktun Coffee + Bar that opened last year, as previously reported by What Now Charlotte. Now, they have set their sights on 301 E. Chapel Hill St. in Durham, signing a lease for the 8,000-square-foot building, according to reporting by the Triangle Business Journal.
Plans include a restaurant and rooftop bar on the ground and second floors, and a lounge area in the basement. The team hopes to open the spot by the end of 2025.
As of now, a name for the restaurant has not been revealed.
The Mezcalito Group operates Mezcalito Grill, a Tex-Mex chain with locations in Durham, Clayton, Beaufort, Goldsboro, Henderson and Apex. The group is also expected to open another Aaktun Coffee + Bar alongside Diaz.
What Now Charlotte reached out to Mezcalito Group for further details on the plans for the new restaurant but did not receive more information prior to the time of publication.
