We’ve heard of wine and cheese, but what about beer and charcuterie? Stumblebum Beer Co., a new microbrewery planned in Troy, MI is combining the two popular items in one place. Located at 1965 W Maple Rd, the microbrewery is anticipated to open early in the summer. Proprietor and brewer Eli Green confirmed with What Now Detroit that he is hoping to open in early June with a soft opening scheduled on June 1.

The upcoming brewery will feature a 5,546-square-foot taproom, where beer, rotating charcuterie boards, and house-made sodas will be served. On the website, Green described Stumble Beer Co. as “a celebration of beer, meat, and cheese that I look forward to sharing with all who stumble through my door.”

The concept’s original inspiration came to Green during his time in New York City when Green attended a lecture on beer and cheese hosted by Garrett Oliver of Brooklyn Brewery in collaboration with a cheese monger and a Master Sommelier.

“Like you, I was surprised to learn that beer and cheese was widely (among experts) considered to be a better pairing than wine and cheese due to the interaction of protein content and hop acidity of beer with savory flavor compounds in cheese,” said Green in an email to What Now Detroit.

From then on, Green continued to seek out the beer-cheese experience in his travels, but that hunt was rarely fruitful. In the end, Green decided to take matters into his own hands. Green’s passion for brewing began 10 years ago. Green also worked at both the brewery and homebrew supply shop at Cadillac Straits Brewing in Madison Heights. That experience would eventually become helpful in putting together the Stumblebum concept.

Birmingham-based DesignTeam Plus, a firm known for designing multiple taprooms, was the team behind Stumblebum’s taproom. According to an AOL coverage, the space will be “a nod to those with a sense of wanderlust, who find comfort in themselves wherever they roam, be it the open road or by hopping a train to an unknown destination.”

The business was updated earlier this month on Facebook, showing that the interiors are almost complete. Those eager to follow alone can sign up for the brewery’s mailing list on its website.

“Stumblebum started as a nickname in my college days. The dictionary definition is ‘a clumsy or inept person.’ The name didn’t stick very long after college and I had almost forgotten it all together until I needed to come up with a fun, unique name for my business. Now it has evolved into more of a mascot character who represents an easy-going wanderlust, curiosity, comfort, and resilience (symbolized by the hop cone bindlestick in our logo),” Green said in the email.
