After a year of site changes and kitchen fires, The Maggiore Group has announced more changes to its restaurant lineup in Phoenix.

Previously, What Now Phoenix reported on The Mexicano at 4801 E. Cactus Road catching fire, forcing owner Joey Maggiore to close the restaurant indefinitely, hoping to open in the next few months. Now it appears The Mexicano will not be reopening in that space just yet. Instead, the group will open the restaurant in the former home of The Rosticceria, another concept from The Maggiore Group that recently closed, according to AZ Central. The Rosticceria opened in December 2023 as part of a two-concept idea.

It’s a bittersweet moment for The Maggiore Group, which opened the concept near the intersection of Tatum Boulevard and Cactus Road, offering wood-fired meats, sandwiches, mains, pasta, and desserts. Unfortunately, Maggiore felt The Rosticceria didn’t resonate with the neighborhood and has decided to use the space as a temporary new home for The Mexicano. The Mexicano will reopen at 12811 N Tatum Boulevard on October 15.

This isn’t the only news from the restaurant group. While The Mexicano will rise from the ashes in the former space of The Rosticceria, it’s only a temporary decision from the company. Once the original Mexicano space is recovered from the fire that happened in early August, the group will move the concept back to that location and open something new inside the space of The Rosticceria by January 2025. It’s unclear what the new concept will be, but considering it’s from The Maggiore Group, customers should have high expectations.
