A new restaurant under the working name of “179 Prince” will open its doors directly across from esteemed French bistro, Raoul’s.
It all began when Alsatian brothers, Serge and Guy Raoul, opened a bistro in 1975 where a quaint Italian restaurant was once occupied. Not long after, Raoul’s became a piece of New York history; it is now revered as a long-standing institution, and it does not have any intention of slowing down anytime soon.
In fact, Karim Raoul, owner of Raoul’s, has decided to try his hand at another food and beverage venture. This not-yet-named establishment, which used to be home to Nagomi, a Japanese restaurant that permanently closed in March 2020, is going by “179 Prince,” according to a pending liquor license application. The 875-square-foot space will be located directly across from Raoul’s (180 Prince Street) at 179 Prince Street.
After seeing the proposed menu that was submitted alongside the liquor license application, it’s likely that the fare at “179 Prince” will be more casual than that of its sister restaurant, boasting burgers, sandwiches, and sharable starters as opposed to fine steak and seafood.
