A delicious new Jersey-based bakery is currently making its way to 37th Street.
Patis Bakery is an artisan bakery founded in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, specializing in European and American pastries, breads, macaroons, chocolates, and beyond. The bakery was founded in 2017 by Chef Moses Wendel, who previously owned the popular Paredes Restaurant which operated from 2010 until 2016. Since launching in 2017, the bakery now boasts five locations across New Jersey and New York.
Chef Moses believes that his bakery’s main goal is to serve his customers delicious foods that are expertly crafted with all-natural and locally-sourced ingredients. As a fully kosher bakery, the quality of its ingredients is especially important to Wendel, who ensures that guests have equal options to quality dairy and non-dairy options. Fully kosher certified by the Orthodox Union, Patis offers both Pareve and dairy options, and ensures that all dairy is chalav yisreal.
In order to fully master the French baking style, Chef Moses tapped Chef Khalil Debira to serve as pastry chef thanks to his expertise in French cuisine. In addition to their fabulous pastries, Patis Bakery also offers a light selection of sandwiches as well as beverages like coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice.
Now, the young bakery will be expanding into Midtown Manhattan, where it has taken over the lease at 44 West 37 Street. Occupying the lower level, mezzanine, and first floor, the space will feature an impressive 4,610 square feet. The space has been on market for over 20 months, and the recent acquisition of the space is a healthy sign of the neighborhood’s continuing recovery from the pandemic. While Chef Moses and his team still have a lot of work ahead of them to prepare the space, you can follow the bakery on Instagram for further updates as well as the occasional raffle.
