An exciting new restaurant concept is currently getting ready to open up in the heart of Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
Haven is a brand new restaurant from first time restaurant owner Brian Staub. An Upper West Side native since 1995, Staub envisions his restaurant as a family-friendly restaurant where the whole neighborhood can gather and get to know each other. The restaurant is styled as a traditional American bistro that will serve elevated comfort food featuring unusual twists like miso soup with matzoh balls.
Staub has been working in the financial sector for over two decades, but has always kindled the flame of his passion for cooking. When the opportunity presented itself to open a restaurant of his own, Brian decided to finally pursue his dream of feeding the neighborhood he had inhabited for so much of his life. Attending culinary school in 2018, Brian quickly acquired the technical mastery he needed to bring his dream to life, and soon after he began planning his new restaurant. Initially conceived in 2019, the project faced multiple delays and was significantly set back by the Covid-19 pandemic, but Brian thankfully endured the delays and is once again able to bring his vision into reality.
Moving into the space at 226 West 79th Street, Haven will be replacing Burke & Wills, a popular Australian restaurant that opened in 2013 and was known for serving unusual Aussie dishes like Kangaroo burgers, and bone marrow and sardine appetizers. The space is well suited for Brian’s vision for Haven, which will have a full-service bar with 18 seats and enough tables to comfortably sit an additional 38 guests. The restaurant is expected to operate from 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM Monday through Wednesday, 11:00 AM – 1:00 AM Thursday and Friday, 9:00 AM – 1:00 AM on Saturday, and 9:00 AM – 12:00 AM on Sunday. While Brian is still in the planning and development phase, he reported to What Now New York that he hopes to have Haven operational by June 2022.
