The owners of Short Leash Hotdogs have announced some changes to the restaurant, including the sale of the concept, a relocation, and a new restaurant coming to 4221 N 7th Ave.
After fifteen years, Brad and Kat Moore have decided to sell the restaurant to undisclosed owners, who plan to relocate the restaurant, according to an announcement on social media. As a result, Short Leash Hotdogs will have its last day in its current Melrose location on Saturday, December 21st. While this Short Leash will find a new home under new ownership, the Moores plan to open a new yet-to-be-named concept in the space in late January 2025. Kat confirmed this information with What Now Phoenix.
“After fifteen amazing years, we have decided to sell Short Leash Hotdogs and embark on a new adventure,” according to the announcement. “This was not an easy choice for us, as every moment of this journey has been incredibly rewarding. We have cherished the friendships we’ve made and the wonderful people we’ve met within our community. You have invited us into your homes and made us a part of your most important milestones in life: weddings, bar mitzvahs, birthdays, baby showers, and even funerals. Your unwavering support and loyalty have been instrumental to our success, and for this, we are deeply grateful! The new owners of Short Leash Hotdogs have decided to relocate the business to another location yet to be determined. They have a vision to grow the Short Leash brand and will need time to decide the direction they will take it.”
While additional details as to what will replace Short Leash Hotdogs have yet to be revealed, it’s an exciting development for the area. The Moores opened the concept in 2010 as a mobile vendor at Phoenix farmers markets before eventually opening a brick-and-mortar in downtown and a food truck at the Biltmore Fashion Park. The Melrose District location opened in 2018. The space will be transformed into something new as soon as Short Leash Hotdogs has its last day.
“To celebrate and express our gratitude, we invite you to a special farewell event on December 21st,” the announcement continues. “Join us for a day filled with reminiscing, music, craft beer, and one last hot dog! We would love to see you there and have the chance to personally thank you. We’ll be sharing more updates soon and will be opening a new concept in the same location in late January and we hope you will join us on this next chapter. Your continued support means the world to us, and we can’t wait to welcome you to our next place!”
