According to a recently submitted permit application, a new Yonsei Handrolls outpost is coming to Albany, gearing up to debut at 905 San Pablo Avenue — near establishments such as Brezo, Hot Shop, and Lulu.
What Now San Francisco reached out to the concept’s owner, Kyle Itani — who is also the founder of Hopscotch Takeout and an upcoming concept in Berkeley, Itani Sushi — to inquire about the expansion, but he could not provide additional information before publication.
For readers who are unfamiliar with Itani’s Yonsei Handrolls, the eatery is known for its “open-faced Japanese sushi handrolls made of crisp nori, seasoned sushi rice, and top-notch fish.”
“Kyle brought his passion for Japanese cuisine and culture to Uptown Oakland in 2012 when he opened Hopscotch, a classic American diner with a Japanese twist. He was among Oakland’s early culinary pioneers who helped establish a destination restaurant scene and earned himself a San Francisco Chronicle Rising Star Chef Award and a spot on the Chronicle’s Top 100 Bay Area Restaurants list,” the Yonsei Handrolls website shares.
An opening date has not been announced yet, so stay tuned for updates.
