A new restaurant called Wrap and Roll is coming to 3135 16th St. in the Mission, according to city public records. The concept is brought to us by Arafat Herzallah, who also owns Freekeh, an up-and-coming Middle Eastern tapas spot also on 16th Street.
In a phone call with What Now San Francisco, Herzallah said simply that Wrap and Roll will be a sandwich shop specializing in deli-style items that can either be wrapped or served on a roll. He explained that he is currently in the process of working through city permitting and other standard paperwork, but adds that if all goes according to plan, he should be ready to open by mid-March.
Until then, Herzallah says that customers should visit his first venture across the way at Freekeh. The Palestinian family-owned bistro serves authentic and traditional halal foods from the Levantine region. The restaurant’s namesake is an ancient Levantine grain in the form of wheat that is harvested while it is still young and green, then roasted over an open fire before the straw and chaff are burned and rubbed off. The result is a nutty, savory and smoky flavor that elevates many of the dishes it’s used in.
Freekeh recently opened this past summer and is already seeing rave reviews. If it’s success is any indication, we’re certain that Wrap and Roll is sure to be a hit as well.
