Outerlands co-founders Dave Muller and Lana Porcello announced that the restaurant would “temporarily close, with plans to reopen” in a post to the Outerlands Instagram page on September 22nd —following through on September 26th. Luckily for patrons, the shutdown was brief. Outerlands reopened the doors to its 4001 Judah Street spot on October 1st, with Riley Bartlett, the eatery’s former General Manager, announced as the new owner.
According to Eater, Bartlett, alongside new hires, Tim Watson and Sergio Cruz, are working together on the new menu. They plan to center the cuisine around Watson’s Italian restaurant experience, prioritizing seasonality. The new owner also intends to reframe how the restaurant is perceived, sharing “I know a lot of people think of Outerlands as a brunch spot, but I always thought of it as a dinner spot.” Beer and wine are to be added to the menu.
As far as renovations are concerned, Barlett wants for “the huge, driftwood-esque bar” to be central to the restaurant going forward, according to Eater. Additionally, he plans to expand the parklet to allow more seating for outdoor dining.
What Now San Francisco was unable to contact a restaurant representative by the time of publication. The schedule for the aforementioned renovations has not yet been announced.
