Saru Sushi Bar in Russian Hill is reopening as Saru Handroll Bar, according to Tablehopper. The sushi bar has been closed since May 2021 for renovations.

Located at 2206 Polk Street, the opening is predicted to be sometime during the second week of November. The Noe Valley location, however, will continue to operate as Saru Sushi Bar.

Know as a “miniature, art-splashed sushi and sake bar,” Saru Sushi Bar offers salads and appetizers, sushi rolls, sashimi, and nigiri — with a beverage menu containing a selection of wine, chilled sake, and beer. Based on the name, in addition to the aforementioned norimaki, or cut rolls, Saru Handroll Bar will likely also serve temaki, also known as sushi handrolls or sushi burritos.

While it has not been confirmed as to whether Saru Handroll Bar will follow suit, Saru Sushi’s hours of operation are Wednesday through Sunday from 5:30 pm to 9 pm for dinner, and for lunch from 12 pm to 2 pm Thursday to Sunday. The restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday and does not accept reservations or takeout orders.
