Bay Area-based company Wild West Ferments is moving into a space at 14700 Shoreline Highway in Point Reyes Station. While it’s unclear how the facility will be utilized, it was previously home to Cowgirl Creamery, an artisan cheese manufacturer that has closed after being in business for more than 25 years.

Wild West Ferments is known for its fermented specialty pantry items that are sold in its online store and at the San Rafael Civic Center Farmers Market, the seasonal Point Reyes Farmers Market, and Oakland Grand Lake Farmers Market. Some of its products include Beet Kvass, Moroccan Kvass, Kraut Juice, Signature Sauerkraut, Simply Sauerkraut, Seasonal Sauerkraut, 24 Carrot Gold, Moroccan Beets, El Curtido, Roots Culture Kimchi, and Preserved Lemons.

Wild West Ferments’ website shares a little about the business’s method and values, stating, “we ferment in ceramic crocks, never in plastic. Our ingredients are always organic. Our sauerkrauts ferment for six weeks to achieve optimum nutrition and flavor.” Co-owners and couple Luke Regalbuto and Maggie Beth Levinger advise customers to “put a forkful of fermented veggies alongside or atop whatever it is you’re eating, after it comes off the heat,” sharing that they believe the fermented products, “enhance almost any savory dish and offer such dynamic flavor and health-giving properties that preparing food becomes something of greater ease and simplicity.”

According to Point Reyes Light, Wild West Ferments’ new location is predicted to open in 2023. What Now San Francisco was unable to contact a company representative by the time of publication.
