On Thursday, April 13, Brookfield Properties announced that Breadbelly, “a bakery and cafe inspired by Asian traditions,” has signed a lease for a space at Pier 70’s Building 12 — a restored historic building that was originally built in 1941 for the World War II shipbuilding effort.

“The open layout will allow our guests to engage their senses beyond taste, see the fabrication of our products from scratch, hear the whir and clang of bakery equipment, and smell the aroma of freshly baked milk bread and buttery croissants,” shares Clement Hsu, one of Breadbelly’s co-founders, in a recent press release.

Hsu adds, “We are excited to join fellow makers and artisans in keeping alive the traditions of historical Building 12 with bun-making instead of shipbuilding!”

According to the press release, additional upcoming residents include Standard Deviant Brewing, Studio Duskus, Marbled Mint, Prowl Studio, and Scuderia, as well as a paper artist and a metalsmith.

Tim Bacon, Brookfield Properties Senior Director of Development, says that Brookfield plans to share additional tenants for Building 12 soon.

An opening date has not yet been announced, so follow Breadbelly on Instagram for additional updates.
