According to a recent permit filing, Kuya’s Kitchen will be revamped with Ading Fernando’s Casa at 612 N Devine Road #610 and #612.

“We’re not sure of our opening date for the new addition. We will be renaming the restaurant and simplifying our menu,” Agnes Cabanilla, partner and co-owner, told What Now Portland.

“We are excited about our restaurant, which will have Filipino and Mexican food options. Kuya is Filipino cuisine, and Casa is Mexican. Kuya also has another location in Gresham. Kuya’s owner decided to share the space with my son, also named Agnes, hence the change of the name.”

“Kuya means older brother or older man when translated. “Ading” is a younger male or female, referring to Agnes, plus another one of our partners Fernando, for the Mexican side of the restaurant,” Cabanilla added.

According to Kuya’s website, the restaurant describes itself as “Taking over where Duck Tails stood for over 14 years, Kuya’s Casa has some big shoes to fill. The restaurant was legendary when it came to breakfast, so to fill the void left, Kuya’s Casa decided to implement both Filipino and Mexican breakfast. Nowhere else will you find delicious Chilaquiles and Longsilog (try this one you won’t regret it) under the same roof.”

“The pairing of Philippine and Mexican worked better than anyone could have hoped. The minds behind Kuya’s Casa believe it is because of the vast similarities between Mexico and The Philippines. The decor within the restaurant draws heavily on both Mexican and Philippine cultures and the two blend
seamlessly together.”
