Famous local Thai food-truck, Dee Dee, is in the early stages of building up new brick-and-mortar premises within a new botanical garden, according to recent public records. The location’s official address is at 6405 Brodien Ln. in Sunset Valley.
“We’re still in the negotiation stage of taking the property under control,” co-owner Justin Trubiana tells What Now Austin. “We’re trying to buy and develop this property, but it’s a long way to go.”
When asked about the challenges to come, Trubiana points to the foundational obstacles he and his wife & co-owner Lakana Trubiana will soon tackle.
“We don’t even have water yet. It’s a ground-up development — we’ve been working on it for two years already. We still got some hurdles to get through, but we’re checking one box at a time.”
If all moves forward with the land transaction, Trubiana estimates that the new Dee Dee location won’t be up and running until “a couple of years away.”
Readers unfamiliar with the original food truck at 4204 Manchaca Road can better understand the culinary concept by understanding co-owner & chef Lakana Trubiani’s own roots, as stated on the official website.
“Lakana was born to a family of farmers and raised in Thailand’s northeastern countryside known as Isaan, which shares a cultural heritage with Laos. From a young age she helped her family with planting the vegetables and rice they would sell at the local market.”
“She would wake before sunrise, spending the early morning hours helping her mother and great-grandmother prepare the meals to feed the family, co-workers and to sell at her school’s market before going to class. This is where her appreciation for the freshest, healthiest and best ingredients was learned.”
