Ronnica Whaley opened her first food truck, Shiso Crispy, in 2019. In the intervening years, Shiso Cripsy has added a second truck and been voted #1 food truck by The Tampa Bay Times. So you could say, Shiso Crispy is a sensation. And now Whaley is bringing that sensation to a more permanent location.
“Soooo we are opening a dumpling house on 16th and Central in December!! Think I’m gonna call it ‘SHISO…a dumpling house,’ ” the eatery announced on social media just last week. “It will be steamed, made to order gyoza, shumai, and mandu.”
Shiso Crispy, Tampa Bay’s first and only soup dumpling eatery, is known for its handmade gyozas, bao buns, and dirty rice. The brick-and-mortar version of the truck will open on the ground floor of St. Petersburg’s Fusion 1560, the apartment complex on Central Ave, where it will be in good company, just down the street from Brooklyn South, The Local Draught House, and Ferg’s Sports Grill and Bar
Per the announcement, you’ll be able to enjoy those gyozas in-house by December of this year. In the meantime, Shiso Crispy continues to operate as usual in truck-form. Follow the eatery on social media to find out where.
