Shipley Do-nuts are depression-era sweets first fried up by Lawrence Shipley Sr. in 1936. The gourmet recipe of hand-cut hot doughnuts that sold for 5 cents a dozen were available wholesale at the company’s start. But after only a few years, these doughnuts just couldn’t contain themselves.

Years later, hundreds of Shipley Do-nut retail stores exist around the country. The company serves up over 60 varieties of doughnuts, with plain glazed at the top of the best seller list.

Florida is home to two locations, one in the Jacksonville area and one in Bradenton. That’s why this news matters—Florida’s Shipley Do-nuts-drought it about to end. According to Restaurant News, Jared Burnett will franchise three stores in the Tampa area. The stores are slated to open by the second quarter of 2022.

Jared Burnett is no stranger to the franchise business. He owns and operates Burnett Global, a holdings company that encompasses all of his entrepreneurial endeavors, including his franchised Walk-Ons, a casual “sports bistreaux” serving Louisiana cuisine.

We reached out to Burnett who did not respond in time for comment, so word is still out on the locations and opening dates for these Shipley stores. But we can say, bring on the cherry iced and chocolate glazed!
