Across Tenth Street from Mary Brickell Village in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood, a new outpost of global teppanyaki chain Benihana is preparing for launch. Benihana’s Brickell location will open at 54 SW 10th St, according to a plan review submitted by Passo 16 LLC.
Behind Passo 16 LLC are local entrepreneurs Erick and Eduardo Passo. What Now reached out to Eduardo Passo on Friday to inquire about plans for the new Benihana. Passo confirmed news of the opening but declined to speak further on the project at this time.
What Now is awaiting more information on the project.
Founded in 1964 as the United State’s first Japanese teppanyaki restaurant, Benihana launched a second location in New York and then a third in Chicago, reaching six U.S. locations by 1972.
“Sadly [founder] Rocky Aoki died in 2008 at the age 69,” says the Benihana website. “But, his legacy lives on with more than 70 Benihana restaurants in the United States, Caribbean, and Central and South America, and more than 100 million meals served.”
