Chef Michael White, together with co-founders Alex Pirez and Matt Safchik, is preparing to launch a brand new restaurant in Coral Gables. Mika, the new restaurant, will open at 3007 Ponce de Leon, in the building on the northeast corner of the intersection with Malaga Avenue, according to a recently submitted plan review.
“MIKA will feature White’s classic Riviera style while celebrating South Florida’s exceptional bounty of local seafood and produce,” a representative told What Now on Wednesday. “The menu will include innovative carpaccio-style crudos, exceptional handmade pastas, and perfectly grilled proteins paired with some of White’s most legendary dishes like langoustine carpaccio, fusilli with octopus and bone marrow, and rosemary sea salt bistecca alla fiorentina.”
The new restaurant from White, who is the creator and founding chef of New York restaurant Marea, is expected to hire between 51 and 100 employees.
“While White is known for his fine dining, MIKA will be a fresh concept that unites his skillset with a focus on humble hospitality. As a result, the restaurant will be an inviting and sophisticated neighborhood restaurant offering unapologetic food in a convivial setting.”
Opening in the Ponce de Leon location, Mika will join restaurants like Pinstripes, Christy’s Restaurant, Sweet Paris Creperie & Cafe, and Americana Kitchen.
