Fuku Sushi has been a University of Arizona staple in Tucson ten years, known amongst students for its $6 sake bombs and daily happy hour specials. Recently, the restaurant has opened ghost kitchens in Tempe and San Diego, and soon it’s headed to The Colony in uptown Phoenix, at 5538 North 7th Street — the former home of PURE Sushi Colony.

Owner Matt Serventi acquired the restaurant in Tucson 8 years ago, and has since focused on expanding the Fuku Sushi name and its menu’s “top-notch sushi and Japanese cuisine.” The new spot will not only offer traditional sushi rolls, but a rotating ramen menu, Omakase (chef’s choice) specials, cocktails, and a variety of high-end sake.

The new space will boast a 1,000 square foot patio, complete with an indoor-outdoor bar, and will also feature TVs, seating at the sushi bar, and plenty of seating in the dining room. And, in typical Fuku fashion, the restaurant will of course offer happy hour seven days a week.

Serventi hopes to open Fuku Sushi by September 1st. So see you then, out on the patio at happy hour — we’ll be the ones pounding the table in unison until our sake slips between our chopsticks (just kidding, we’re going to sip our high-end sake like the classy adults we are, at least until the college kids show up).
