Sugar Stop Sweet Shoppe is planned as a Phase 2 tenant at 83 Marketplace in Peoria. The woman-owned boutique candy store is the brainchild of Jody Terrizzi-dela Calzada, who says that if all goes according to plan, she hopes to be open by the end of Summer 2022.
Terrizzi-dela Calzada wants to develop a store that is unlike anything the Valley has already seen, expressing dismay at the general lack of great candy stores in the area. On top of that, she notes that Arizona’s inclement weather tends to complicate incoming candy supply.
This is why Terrizzi-dela Calzada has spent the last three years sourcing bulk candy vendors that are the perfect fit for her shop. She also plans to sell gelato from a local vendor whose manufacturing facility is in Arizona. Imagine a clean, open 1,400 to 1,800 square-foot space filled with beautiful jars of candy.
That is the vision for Sweet Stop Sugar Shoppe once it is actually built. While 83 Marketplace has been in development for years, they are only now starting to build out their first tenants. While the land is set for Phase 2, construction has yet to begin. Terrizzi-dela Calzada adds that once construction is complete, build out will likely take another three to four months before she can debut the store.
Until then, Terrizzi-dela Calzada has nearly everything prepared for her next steps and is patiently waiting for the 83 Marketplace developers to break ground on Phase 2. At the end of the day, she’s excited to become a local business owner that will uplift the Upper West Side Phoenix community.
