The former home of Bryan’s Black Mountain Barbecue in Cave Creek will soon have new owners, a new menu, and a new name. Cryin’ Coyote BBQ is set to open its doors at 6130 E Cave Creek Rd this summer.

Cryin’ Coyote BBQ will be the first of husband-and-wife ownership duo Cody and Beth Edgin’s restaurant ventures in Cave Creek. They will include their four children – Tatum, Lily, Jack, and Sawyer – in the day-to-day operations of the north valley smokehouse.

The Edgin family had been in search of a location in Cody’s hometown of Cave Creek for their first family-owned restaurant when this fortuitous opportunity arose.

“I approached Bryan and Donna after I saw that they had plans to close Bryan’s and focus on the next chapter of their lives. Luckily for our family, they opened up their arms and their restaurant to us so that we could experience their magic while they finished out the last leg of their journey.”

Owner and 30-year veteran of the restaurant industry, Cody has been able to study under Chef Bryan Dooley for the last few months of operation.

“Bryan and his team have been able to establish not only award-winning barbecue in my hometown of Cave Creek but have been able to positively impact the community and many families with their honest and welcoming hospitality over the last 14 years. Although we will have a different menu and recipes, our focus on caring for the community will remain the same. We look forward to carrying on the tradition of fine barbecue in this beautiful location. We can’t wait for the good people of Cave Creek and surrounding areas coming in to visit us after we open!”

The BBQ joint will serve straightforward barbecue that pays homage to many regional BBQ traditions from across the United States: Central-Texas-inspired beef brisket, South Carolina-inspired pulled pork, and Memphis-inspired pork spareribs. The menu will feature smoked meats by the pound, plate, or sandwich plus a variety of sides and desserts made fresh daily.

All meats are dry rubbed before entering the smoker and will be served the same way, without sauce. Customers will have the option to sauce their own palates and plates with a variety of house-made sauces including a sweet/smokey KC-style brown BBQ sauce, a tangy/peppery Texas-style red, a pulled pork-loving Carolina gold mustard sauce, and a homegrown, slightly spicy Raspberry-Chipotle sauce that speaks to southwestern flavors.

Cryin’ Coyote BBQ will reopen on the 4th of July. Shop hours will be Wednesday through Sunday, from 11am – 8pm (or until food is “Sold Out”).
