Baton Rouge may soon have a new live music venue, according to plans that have been submitted to the city’s planning and zoning commission. Uptown Baby, a live music venue that will focus on hosting live blues musicians and serving alcohol, has plans to open at 2574 North Acadian Thruway East.

According to Uptown Baby owner Curtis Haynes, the space has been used as a club before, but its most recent business iteration was home to a barber and beauty shop. While at the moment, there aren’t plans to sell food at the venue, Haynes said that the establishment will offer bottled drinks like beer as well as a variety of mixed cocktails.

Details found in the preliminary agenda posted online show that the planning and zoning commission will vote on rezoning the property at its next meeting on September 18. From there the application will go before the metropolitan council in mid October for approval. If all goes as planned, Haynes tells What Now New Orleans that once the meetings are finalized, he hopes to complete some minor interior renovations and open the club as soon as possible.
