After standing the test of time for nearly a decade, popular local food truck La Cocinita will finally get its own brick-and-mortar location.

Owners Benoit and Rachel Angulo had a stand for their food truck at the now defunct Pythian Market and they have a brick-and-mortar location for La Cocinita back in Rachel’s native Chicagoland area. However, the location slated to open next spring at 4920 Prytania Street would be the first standalone New Orleans location. What Now New Orleans has reached out to the owners for comment.

As one of the first new-wave food trucks in New Orleans, La Cocinita made a made for itself by serving classic dishes from Benoit’s native Venezuela, including arepas and tacos. The menu at the new restaurant will significantly expand on the food truck offerings by offering a broader range of arepas, a full bar and a weekend brunch menu. The restaurant will take more of a fast-casual route and offer counter service.

The new La Cocinita restaurant will take the place of a former Parran’s Po-Boys location, which closed back in March. It will be located next to Creole Creamery and according to Eater New Orleans, the Angulos hope to collaborate their neighbors on South American dessert options.
